What’s in a Name? Dissecting the Word ‘Dobok’
A Taekwondo uniform is usually called a ‘dobok’, deriving from the Korean words do (way) and bok (clothing). It can come in many colours, although white is the more traditional choice. There is a close connection between the Korean Taekwondo uniform and the Japanese keikogi or dōgi, which is used in other martial arts, including Judo.
At ringpowerind, we offer an adult and a kids’ version of the dobok. Taekwondo belts of the white variety are included as standard, so you can get on with your training right after delivery.
The Taekwondo Grading System
The grading system in Taekwondo varies from style to style but is usually divided into a junior section – the colour belts – and a senior section – the black belts. Within the junior section, there are between 8 and 12 cup ranks, in which the practitioner evolves from white belts (the lowest rank) to red belts (higher ranks). In the black-belts section, there are typically nine ranks, which are called dan ranks. A practitioner’s specific degree is often indicated with white stripes on their belt.
